| Head Coach: Duncan Reid 1972-73 Record: 30-1 |
Three years after, the Railsplitters were again among the state's elite teams. Led by one of the state's brightest young coaches, Duncan Reid, they broke the 30-win mark for the second time in four years. All Stater Norman Cook, who later played at Kansas and was subsequently selected in the first round of the NBA draft by the Boston Celtics was the focal point of that Lincoln team. Cook, who at that time was Lincoln's all-time leading scorer, had plenty of support. Three year varsity starters Tim Bushell, who played basketball at the University of Illinois, and Mike Schneider made up the nucleus of that Lincoln team which would finish the regular season at 25-0. Along the way, they would win the Lincoln Thanksgiving Tournament, the Edwardsville Christmas Tournament, and the Big 12 Conference. Winners of the Regional, Sectional, and Bradley Super-Sectional in Peoria, the Railsplitter's season came to an end in Assembly Hall in the quarterfinals |
